DOs and DON'Ts: Makeup Application

Email |
|
By missmua · January 19, 2016

DO: match your foundation to your neckline rather than your cheek. Nobody should see where your foundation starts and finishes.

DON'T: forget skincare!!!! Take care of your canvas, this will make a world of a difference when it comes to makeup application.

Do: invest in good makeup brushes. You need the proper tools to get the job done. A painter can't paint without his brush just as a makeup artist can't create without his/her makeup brushes.

DON'T: skip your moisturizer. This is extremely important. Even if you have oily skin like myself, look for a moisturizer that caters to your skin type. My fave is by Shiseido 'Pureness Matifying Moisturizer' retails about $33.50 for about 1.6 fl. oz. A little goes a very long way.

DO: wash your brushes!!! This means not just spot cleaning, but deep cleaning as well. Avoid the buildup ending up on your face and clogging your pores.

DON'T: forget the SPF. UVA rays are responsible for premature aging and enlarged pores. Protect your face with a broad spectrum sunscreen daily.

DO: have fun with your makeup by changing up your routine. Makeup is here to enhance natural beauty so have fun well keeping it simple no need to over do it.

DON'T: over draw your eyebrows. Remember eyebrows FRAME YOUR FACE. So make sure you groom, trim and even fill in any sparce area that may need to be filled in without over drawing them.

DO: practice. Practice makes perfect. Don't worry you'll have that wing liner down in no time. ;)

& lastly DO: have fun. And more fun and did I say FUN?!!

Peace, Love and Paint!
XO Crystal

Hey loves!! Wow, can you believe its been 3 years and change since I've wrote on my blog? (Insert embarrassed emoji) Let's skip from 2012 to now the New year of 2016 so much has changed.

For example, since then Instagram has taken over and created so many self taught makeup artist along with what is known as the "instafamous" slogan. Portfolio's seem to be a thing of the past. I mean come on now who prints pictures anymore? It's become more of a "tag me". Hashtag this and hashtag that... womp womp womp as much as I love technology and how far we have come I miss the simplicity.

Who remembers when Twitter used to be poppin?! Lol Now it's IG and Snapchat. Call me basic, but I miss what a simple 140 characters used to do. Talk to the world via a sentence. Now its post a pic, focus on "likes" and make sure you hashtag every word and remember if it doesn't get at least (enter #) likes you must delete picture... I REPEAT DELETE PICTURE!!! Ugh its just so damn complicated and nerve wrecking at times. Haha Please don't ever think your work is not "good enough" by the amount of "likes" you get. If you love it then display it!!

Times have changed, but there's one thing that hasn't changed and that's my love for this thing called MAKEUP. So that being said I look forward to posting Makeup Mondays again, Interviews with people I love, New Makeup alerts, tips and advise. Till next time.

Makeup Monday, "Is it time to throw away your makeup?"

Hey loves!!! How amazing would it be if all our makeup item's came with expiration dates printed right on them?!! Unfortunately for us they don't! You ever grab your mascara, apply and all of a sudden your eye's feel extremely irritated, turn red and start crying?? Yup, that my friend is a sign that your mascara is no longer worthy of being placed on your precious natural lashes. Instead it has become worthy of that little plastic bucket in the corner of your restroom also known as "The Trashcan"! I'm here to share some simple tips on when it's time to get rid of certain makeup items depending on how long you've had them. So, lets get started!

• Mascara This product expires the fastest: Throw out after 4 months. Extra tip: If you don't want your mascara to expire faster than its fresh date, don't pump the wand in and out -- you're only exposing the product to drying air.
• Lipstick Some experts say 1-2 years. Others say up to 4 years. What everyone agrees on is that if it smells rancid, throw it out, it's spoiled. Extra tip: If you store lipstick in the refrigerator, it will last longer.
• Lip liner Up to 3 years.
• Foundation Check the ingredients: A water-based foundation will last up to 12 months, oil-based will last up to 18 months.
• Eyeshadow Will also last up to 3 years. Extra tip: A dark eyeshadow can double as eyeliner.
• Pencil eye liner Should be sharpened regularly. Will last up to 3 years.
• Cream & gel cleansers 1 year.
• Powder 2 years.
• Concealer Up to 12 months.

*Please keep in mind that these are estimates*

New Music Monday with Special Guest "RambosHustle"

Email |

By missmua · June 25, 2012

Hey loves!!! So today we have special guest artist, my friend & extremely talented "RambosHustle", he's introducing his latest work EP 'From Me 2 You'. This follows his first project 'Witness My Arrival'. I met him a few years back at a photoshoot and I have to say he never see's to amaze me! Such a hard worker and oh, so talented!! He's a jack of many trades, everything he does, he does wholeheartedly & I thought it would only be right to share not only his brand new EP, but also interview the man himself & let you guys get the insight on him and his latest project....

Q: So your EP 'From Me 2 You' dropped today a nice gift from you to us since its Free Lol, where can we download it?

A: Well...every day I have a new site or Blog that picks it up so that's a blessing all on its own. But so far the major ones really holding it down are HOTNEWHIPHOP.com , The Lovely and always supportive Miss MUA and of course RHustlemedia.com which is growing everyday.

Q: What can we expect from your EP?

A: The same shit you could expect from anything else I do. the truth. Although i def. feel it has much more soul and pain than my 1st project "Witness My Arrival" Which Was good but had no real "SOUND" . This one makes sense, it has a story...depth. Its honest...not that my last one wasn't..but this is just more current & Detailed.

Q: Do you have a favorite track and if so why is it your fave?

A: I have to Say "Here's 2 Life" mainly because the vibe of it feels so good but the content is deep and def. touches on very personal topics. its hard to make a record like that. Plus the video is amazing to me.....who knows....im biased on that one. Its my heart tho. i cant help it.

Q: What inspired you while recording?

A: Just life...my family...friends...and id say just feeling like i HAD to create this project. I didn't leave LA on purpose...i had to. When life puts you in a "Have to" situation its never easy. I felt i had to tell people what i had been going through and really let people in. One of the biggest things i heard after WMA was that people didn't really KNOW me. This one uncovers alot. A.....LOT.

Q: Any specific artist's that inspire you and your work?

A: Hmmmm....Well...honestly..WMA was more of a commercial sound. Artists like Kendrick lamar who I have known for so long really inspire me to write about something bigger and deeper than myself. Specially since he's so much younger than me...I also love older classic artists. Scarface, PAc, DMX...cats that let their emotions speak through their music. you could feel it....you know? Lot of these new cats too cool to let themselves be vulnerable. But shit that's natural. No one is invincible. Our music doesn't make us that....but honesty in it can make us timeless.

Q: Any upcoming shows?

A: I just did a show with Slaughterhouse in April. And i have a big show here in Indianapolis in July. but honestly I'm just focused on promoting this project and let the music spread. the shows will come.

Q: Now for my ladies reading... Are you single??? haha

A: Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaa........hard to find a strong supportive woman now a days. Females love a man who is driven...but when they realize what it takes for me to get where i want to be they rather just go for some regular cat with a 9 to 5 or some shit like that. i mean...they want their time too..i get it...I just don't think about it much. When I meet her Ill meet her.

Q: What do you look for in a woman?

A: Personality. Sense of humor. good morals. Family ties .....And most importantly kinda goofy....i don't really care for people who take themselves too serious. Life's too short for all that....

Q: Where can we keep up with all your doing?

A: Mainly on twitter... @RAMBOHUSTLE Facebook : RamboMusic or the site. Even though im just starting to REALLY build it now with the new project.

Q: Anything you want your fans to know about this EP?

A: Just know its me...its my life through music. Just like anybody else...there's hard times and good days. If you listen to it from start to finish you'll understand. Its just a great body of work.

CREATE THE LOOK: "Glitter Lips"

By missmua · February 26, 2012

FINALLY, what a lot of you loves have been asking for!!!! Here's how I created my glitter lips.... I'm not here to tell you it's the only way they can be created, I'm just here to share my way. :)

Things you'll NEED... 'Ben Nye's Glitter glue' <---this can be purchased online just google it or at some of your fave beauty store's. You'll also need a small angled brush and a lip brush. Just use whatever works for YOU as far as the brushes go. Then get one of your favoriate nude lipsticks or again whatever works for YOU, as you wont be able to see this color after your layer your glitters on. The lipstick is mainly used to protect your lips from the glitter glue. Now comes the fun part! Pull out all your favoriate glitters you'll be using and last but not least a clear gloss and a natural lip liner to outline your lips before you start!

Step 1. Outline lips with your lipliner

Step 2. Fill in entire lips with your LIPSTICK. Get a nice layer on there. Matte lipsticks would work BEST.

Step 3. Dip your lip brush in your 'Ben Nye Glitter Glue' then construct your first application as if your lining your lips!

Step 4. Soon as you got your glue on line pick your FIRST color of glitter and pick it up with your angled brush and apply on top of glue.

Step 5. Once you have your glitter on layer it with a coat of your glue to seal it.

Step 6. Repeat steps 3-5 depending on how many glitter colors your applying. Always start your layering from outside to in.

Step 7. When you have all your colors in and sealed with glue (Make sure their dry, gently tap them) then apply a layer of gloss & your DONE!

Makeup Tip: Keeping your makeup fresh is a MUST! & I have an AMAZING tip for anyone who deals with oily skin and is always spending so much money on oil blotters, you ready?? Next time your at 'Chipotle' having lunch, pick up a STACK of their napkins I SWEAR the best oil blotting napkins EVER!! Starbucks has nothing on them!!! Thanks to MUA Sharalee Anderson Eberhardfor this AMAZING tip. I'm HOOKED!!! ;)

Now if your like me and have oily acne prone skin then this will also work for YOU!
My FAVE easy to do and cheap facial mask is EGG WHITES! Yup, I'm addicted! Its something we all usually have in the fridge and offer AMAZING results!
Here's the simple "How to" Just gently whisk an egg white, just enough to loosen it up. Then pat on face and neck! That's it kids! ;) Wait for it to dry about 10-15 minutes, you'll feel it really tighten your skin. Then rinse off with warm water and pat dry. This is great to treat acne, but also just a real good natural deep cleanser! You'll love the way your skin feels instantly. :) Enjoy.
